Materials for Energy

This theme develops materials solutions for autonomous energy production, use and management. We create high-surface area materials for next generation energy storage and conversion, from super-efficient solar cells to batteries in wearable electronics and energy storage materials for portable electronics.

The Materials for Energy theme leverages our research expertise in nanomaterials, macromolecular chemistry, catalysis and theoretical modelling to develop materials for energy harvesting, delivery and management. These are enabling technologies of the next generation batteries, supercapacitors and thermal management solutions of critical importance not only for ICT applications from mobile phones to data centres but also in the area of electric vehicles and energy storage solutions for the integration of renewable energy sources into the grid.
