Lorraine Byrne is the Executive Director of AMBER. Prior to AMBER, Lorraine was a Technology Strategist within the Imaging and Printing Division of Hewlett Packard (HP) where she had responsibility for an internal research programme focussed on flexible and transparent electronics and displays. Additionally she managed research collaborations with Universities and other Global HP Divisions working within the programme. During her 18 year career with HP, she held a number of senior technical positions in the areas of failure analysis engineering, ink and materials chemistry and research and development.
As the AMBER Executive Director, Lorraine has responsibility for non-scientific aspects of the centre including governance, external stakeholder engagement (including industry, academia, government and public sector), business planning, international funding diversification, communications and public engagement. In partnership with the AMBER Director and leadership team, Lorraine leads the definition and execution of the AMBER strategic plan and the delivery of the centres mission and vision. She has management responsibility for the professional and technical staff within the centre.
Lorraine has a first class honours degree in Analytical Science and. PhD in Chemistry both from Dublin City University. She also holds a postgraduate diploma in Nanotechnology from University of Oxford and a Diploma in Company Direction from Institute of Directors.
AMBER has a strong emphasis on collaboration. Central to AMBER’s research remit are collaborative projects performed with industry partners, and working with academic, industry and wider stakeholder on international and national research programmes.
