AMBER attends ‘Development of the third National Implementation Plan SDGs National Stakeholder Forum’

Good to attend the ‘Development of the third National Implementation Plan SDGs National Stakeholder Forum’ online today with opening address by Minister Timmy Dooley T.D. Minister of State at the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment with responsibility for Fisheries and the Marine

Many AMBER Research projects focus on the sustainable development goals including but no limited to:

SDG3 ‘Good Health and Wellbeing’
AMBER’s Bioengineering researchers are working on projects that utilise advanced materials with the aim of training human tissue to regenerate and heal itself.

SDG7 ‘Affordable and Clean Energy’
AMBERs materials for energy theme focuses on the creation of high-surface area materials for next generation energy storage and conversion. These are enabling technologies of the next generation batteries, supercapacitors, and thermal management solutions.

SDG12 ‘Responsible Consumptin and Production’
Various project in AMBER are exploring the extraction of biomaterials and biochemicals including the concept of producing biopolymers

SDG13 ‘Climate Action’ Projects include carbon capture technology and Detection of Atmospheric Free Radicals and wearable technology to monitor air quality and to alert of hazardous gas exposure.

In a global context advanced materials are a primary driver of economic growth and competitiveness forming the basis of all modern technologies. It is estimated that 70% of the innovations associated with the green and digital transitions will depend on materials research.

AMBER has a strong emphasis on collaboration. Central to AMBER’s research remit are collaborative projects performed with industry partners, and working with academic, industry and wider stakeholder on international and national research programmes.
