AMBER PI and Erasmus Smith’s Professor of Natural and Experimental Philosophy (1724) in the School of Physics Trinity College Dublin Jonathan Coleman has received a European Commission award as coordinator of ‘2D-PRINTABLE: Developing New 2D Materials and Heterostructures for Printed Digital Devices’ a Horizon Europe Cluster 4 consortium proposal. Awarded under the topic “2D Materials of Tomorrow” in the Digital, Industry & Space Cluster this proposal follows on from the Graphene Flagship bringing together 8 European Partner Institutions.
The knowledge developed in ‘2D-PRINTABLE’ will be instrumental for future emerging technologies in energy storage, health and environmental monitoring as well as water purification, to ultimately address most of today’s global challenges.
Professor Johnny Coleman said of the project funding: “I am very excited to be given the opportunity to coordinate 2D-PRINTABLE, a consortium of 8 leading research teams from around Europe. This project is part of the latest stage of the Graphene Flagship and will use 2D materials to develop future printed electronic components for applications such as wearable medical sensors. It is a fantastic opportunity to expand Irish and European cutting-edge research in this rapidly developing and important field.”

Cluster 4 focuses on Digital, Industry and Space. This Cluster sees investment in trusted technologies for a European industry with global leadership in key areas, enabling production and consumption to respect the boundaries of our planet, and maximising the benefits for all parts of society in the variety of social, economic and territorial contexts in Europe.
