Prof. Buckley graduated with degrees in Mechanical Engineering (2001) and a PhD focusing on the development of 3D porous scaffolds for bone tissue engineering (2007) from the University of Dublin, Trinity College. He subsequently worked as a senior postdoctoral fellow in the fields of cartilage regenerative medicine and mechanobiology- developing new strategies and techniques for stem cell based repair. In 2009, Prof. Buckley was awarded an SFI fellowship to work in the mesenchymal stem cell group at the Leeds Institute of Molecular Medicine, UK focusing on isolation, enrichment and characterisation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) from different tissue sources. In 2011, he was appointed as Assistant Professor in Biomedical Engineering (Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering) at Trinity College Dublin. His current research focuses on developing novel biomaterials and cell based strategies for tissue regeneration using minimally invasive approaches. In 2016, Prof. Buckley launched Med3DP (www.med3dp.com), an initiative to develop medical devices for humanitarian healthcare using 3D printing technology. Most recently he received a Career Development Award (Intraoperative Single Stage Procedure for Intervertebral Disc Regeneration (INSPIRE)) from Science Foundation Ireland.

Prof. Buckley’s work in AMBER focuses on biological tissue decellularization strategies and development of novel biomaterials and processes for cellular microencapsulation and bioprinting applications.
